Bokeh Circles

There is no such thing as a card without a story.  The story for this card goes like this.  The Monday Greeting Challenge on Outlawz was to create a card with circles.  http://outlawzchallenges.ning.com/group/monday-greetings/forum/topics/gcc090715-outlawz-monday-greeting-card-challenge-circles
There is a technique called Bokeh where you make colored circles on paper and then stamp over them with white ink.  I’ve been wanting to try it and this seemed like the perfect time.  I made a Bokeh background with Tim Holtz Distress Inks on wet water color paper .  After the first layer dried I took three sizes of round sponges and sponged on white ink.  I then colored my image to go with the circles.  After I had my image all done I noticed another card with the same image and the girl had a shirt & shorts on.  When I looked at the image I thought her outfit looked like a Tee shirt dress, so I colored it all one color.  Well…we all knew that wouldn’t do.  I got as much of the blue ink as I could off the shorts part and colored them again with a peach color.  Unfortunately you could still see the blue in areas so I thought…no problem; I’ll put blue polka dots on the shorts.  I’m not sure if you will be able to see them on the picture but you can in real life.  Monday’s challenge has to have a greeting on it so I cut out “hello friend” and glued it to the front.  Then I stepped WAY out of my box and put a black & white gingham bow & ribbon on the card.  Can you believe it?  Not a matching white or blue or even green but black & white.  Now that’s a real stretch for me! And that’s my card story for the day. TFL

  2. Hi Joan. I love your story behind the making of this beautiful card! It really did make me giggle. But you know what, that black-white bow really worked in harmony with the bright colors of the Bokeh circles and in all complete the card beautifully. I'm very impress by the Bokeh technique. Your circles are stunning and so is your coloring of the image. Thanks so much for sharing with us at Outlawz Monday Greetings. See you again next week Joan? Wishing you a lovely and blessed weekend.

    1. Thanks Donna! There are a lot of ways to do the Bokeh technique. I chose the easiest one :-) I didn't use water colors though. Old timers memory problems! I actually used Tim Holtz Distress Ink. I used a paint brush and made circles on wet watercolor paper. It was really fast & easy.
