About Me

My photo
Minnesota, United States
I am retired and loving it. I have a wonderful husband of 55 years. We have 3 awesome children, 7 fabulous grandchildren and 8 incredibly precious great-grandchildren. I enjoy reading, walking, biking, card making, tatting, X stitching and quilling. My winters in Minnesota are spent mostly indoors while in the summer my husband and I spend quality time on our Harley enjoying the beautiful scenery in our area. I hate to cook, love anything sweet and have mixed feelings about exercising.

RIP Aunt Marie

WOW it’s been a whole month since I posted anything.  Time goes by so quickly.
Our dear Aunt Marie passed a few days ago.  I thought I’d share this card I made for her family.   She was a very special lady and will be missed by many.
I made the cross with quilling strips and the flower was punched out of the background paper.  The center is a quilled rose. It looks a little odd because the back of the paper was white.

Paris Here I Come!

I was introduced to a new card site called Outlawz. http://outlawzchallenges.ning.com/
I really like it. It has a challenge for every day of the week. It feels strange to be at a new site but I'm getting the hang of it. Today they had a challenge to make a card using Red, Yellow and Black with a traveling theme. This is what I came up with. It's funny but this is one of the few times something turned out even better than I imagined it. I must have had angles looking over my shoulder,

These are two of the cards I made for church for November. I masked off the center and the sun and sponged on SU night of navy, so saffron and more mustard. Then I sponged summer sun on the sun area.

I taped the 4 1/4 X 5 ½ sponged card front to a piece of copy paper and printed the saying in Univrsty Roman font and used the MDS 1 digital stamp Just Believe in chocolate chip.  The bird was purchased at Impress. The card front is matted in navy blue and yellow Bazzill textured cardstock.  A stampin’ Up punch was used for the corners.

EB World Challenge

This is my first entry into a challenge at Elisabeth Bell's World challenge Blog at http://elisabethbellsworldchallengeblog.blogspot.com/

The challenge was to make a Christmas card without using a Christmas Image.  I chose to make a side step card using this adorable birthday digi image that I colored with Prisma Colored pencils. This was my first purchase of an EB digi but certainly not my last.

Iam also entering this card in http://www.stampsmiles.com/2012/09/september-blog-candy.html#.UEH4yNZlQf4 Crafty Christmas Challenge

Challenge #150 Lovely Layers

These cards were made for my twin granddaughters.  The belly bands have a place in the back for money or a gift card.  The fairy dust was made out of glitter and embossing powder given to one of the twins by their dad’s mom (Grandma Grace) when she retired from stamping. I am entering them in Mo Manning's challenges at http://mosdigitalchallenge.blogspot.com/

Challenge # 146

This is a card I created for my daughter’s birthday.  It is my entry into Mo Manning’s Anything Goes challenge for the first week in August. http://mosdigitalchallenge.blogspot.com/

Church Sympathy/SC396

I am having so much fun with the stamps my granddaughter gave me.  Today I used this stamp from 1998 called Easter Blessings by SU.  This is number 49 of the 52 sympathy cards I’m making for church.  What will I fill my time with when I’m done?

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.  My first attempt to make a card using the same stamp for the background as the image was a disaster.  The water coloring was fine but the wash behind the image was horrible.  I tried a couple of different things but ended up just cutting the flower out and putting a flourish behind it.  So MUCH better.

Pinterest Card

I saw the card in the left corner on Pinterist.  I loved the image so I used it today for a challenge card on STV.  I think she is adorable! ( I know I spelled the Pin......wrong but something is linking it to a different site)

Elegant Line Art Card

These are the results of a typical card making day for me. I tried to make a card after seeing Gina K's tutorial on line art images.  The first one (on the right) I cut the background papers the wrong size so I had to adjust the image sheets to fit the papers.  That’s why the image is a little too big in proportion to the paper.  The second one I didn’t have enough maroon paper left to make it like the first one so I improvised.  I think both are lovely but as my father always said “complications, complications!”

Thanks

This is a thank you card I made for my sister.  I used some head pins and crystals to make my own embellishments behind the bow.

Great tip!

My friend Barb gave me the greatest tip ever!  She said she buys white pearls and colors them with markers to match her card.  How smart is that!  It works too!!!!!!  This is my first (of many) cards using her technique.  I colored white pearls with an orange sharpie. Yippee!!!!!! (Okay, so it doesn’t take much to get me excited)…….Thanks Barb!

My first shaker card

This is my first ever shaker card.  IF I do another one I will use smaller beads, these keep getting caught between the card and the plastic. I used a digital image colored with pencils and Spellbinders dies.  I applied chalk to the background of the image and sentiment.

Quilled Valentine Card

I wanted to do some quilling for Valentine’s Day.  My first try was a disaster.  This is my second try and although I like it better I still think the heart area is too large.  I’m hoping the third try is the charm.
